The cold temperatures have been miserable, but this weeks weather is a forecast for financial disaster for some.
With the large accumulation of snow sitting on frozen ground, and the warm weather and rain predicted, Brian is very concerned about flooding basements and property damage.
The city of Crystal Lake put out the attached warning on 2/14/14. Brian adds warning that many sump pumps may have frozen discharge pipes. Please also be aware of the possibility that the water pumped out will roll over the frozen ground right back where it started and cause existing sump-pumps to work over-time and could result in pump failure.
Over worked pumps, frozen pumps, frozen ground, melting snow & rain are the "Perfect Storm" for disaster. This is not a situation of "if" it happens, the truth is there WILL be problems and property damage experienced by many.
Brian recommends the following:
1. Take the time to test your pumps immediately.
2. Be sure to check your pumps regularly during this week.
3. Monitor the situation of your lower levels for flooding.
4. Those of you with battery back-up systems should be sure to check the battery levels and review your owner manuals. In the event of primary failure your back-up should be ready to perform its job.
5. Keep handy the phone numbers to receive emergency service
We are preparing ourselves to service customers with their emergency situations. We are stocking pumps in preparation for our customers needs. We can not anticipate & are very concerned with the "supply & demand". During last years flooding, we & the other local plumbing companies had problems obtaining enough pumps for the demand.
By checking your pumps now you will be saving yourself possible problems in the coming week. If you discover your pump is not functioning you can have your situation fixed before damage to property and or supply issues. Also, it is better not to have to wait for service times when the emergency calls start.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call. For tips on checking your pumps please look at our previous blogs.
Thank you & stay dry!
